Match 3 on a busy Saturday at Northampton Road was a friendly for the Colts against Northampton Old Scouts and a tough fixture was expected, especially with Harborough missing some players and shorter on numbers than usual.
Early on in the game Harborough took the lead with another well rehearsed training ground move try from a lineout, Harley Williams scoring in the corner. Kicking duties would be shared today with no regular kicker available and the extras were missed.
Soon after Williams added his second, using his physicality to crash through the defence and score in a more kickable position this time, with Ellis Hepworth able to convert. 12:0
Harborough weren't to have it all their own way this afternoon though and Old Scouts came back into the game to get one back, also missing the conversion. 12:5
Final score of the half went Harborough's way with the ball passed right through the backs, reaching stand-in fly half Hepworth who stepped his defender nicely to score. Ollie Pyle added the extras and at half time it looked comfortable at 19:5
The second half however started differently and Old Scouts took the game back to Harborough, scoring two tries but crucially only converting one of them, 19:17
Harborough also had a yellow card for a series of infringements.
There was time for two more tries, one each with Drahm Plant scoring Harborough's and with neither side able to convert them it was a narrow victory for Harborough 24:22
It was a very even game played in good spirits and a tough run-out for the lads.
