Back to winning ways for the Harborough squads

Match Report for Mischiefs at Hinckley.

The Mischiefs resumed their season after the County Cup breaks with a much anticipated fixture away to Hinckley. A slow uncharacteristic start from the Harborough side saw them trade field position wth their hosts only for Charlie Latham to go on a solo run around the Hinckley defence to score in the corner. Hinckley replied almost immediately after breaking through some weak defensive challenges to level the tie. The game was played in the middle of the park until half time which ended all square. The second half however was a complete turnaround as the Mischiefs turned on the style. Some strong rucks and mauls enabled Joey Stamp then Latham to get his second took the game away from Hinckley. The final score came from a determined run and finish from guest player Tyler Smith. Noah Goodwin playing at scrum half kept the ball flowing from the set piece through to the back line occasionally making good yardage and field position. Forward domination from Matthew Liddle, Shea Harley and Harry Fordham ensured Hinckley were starved of any ball. Ollie John and Jacob Dixon gave solid support in attack and closed down any space Hinckley tried to run into quickly and efficiently. Final score 4-1 to the Mischiefs.
In the second game Harborough Mischiefs and Rascals played a half each against Hinckley. The Mischiefs again showed their dominance by closing the 1st half out by winning 2 - 1. Tries from Mischief of the day, Noah Goodwin and Fordham always kept Hinckley on the back foot.

With a depleted side the young lads stood up to the plate and showed that they can play. The team made a good start rucking well and creating space for Ty Smith to score his first of 3 tries. But it wasn't just a Ty Smith show, all the guys tackled, rucked, mauled very well and held Hinckley at bay. The strong Hinckley scrum won most set pieces putting us on the back foot constantly.Gregor Montgomerie played well at scrumhalf under constant pressure with strong tackles coming in from Tom Kirk, Jalan LeMar and Sam Bullock. New recruit Connor Byrne ripped the ball out of a maul attacked the blind side and was unlucky not to score being well tackled short of the line. A well deserved 3-1 victory

We played the second half of the third match which was played 11-a-side allowing us to use Mischief props Shay & Fordy giving parity upfront allowing us to use the space out wide. Again Ty Smith proved to be our match winner with some good strong runs from deep. George Strevens & Frank Hunt adding strength in the ruck & mauls. Final result of third match was 4-2.

Well done Rascals, an excellent morning of controlled rugby.
