MHRUFC under 11’s made the trip along the M6 to play Silhillians. One of their closets rivals, the Harborough side was expecting a stern workout. The first game wasn’t to disappoint. The boys started strongly camping in the Sils half for the opening 5 minutes. Despite this early pressure and somewhat against the run of play, Sils opened the scoring following some poor tackling on the flanks. The boys quickly regrouped and levelled the score through a nicely timed interception try by Finn Carnduff. Sils replied with another try capitalising again on Harborough’s mistakes. The boys finished strongly with tries from Kai Williamson and Oliver Rodgers. The first game finishing 3-2 to Harborough.
Game 2 started well for the Harborough side with a string of well worked runs through the midfield and close range drives through Ethan Shewring supported by George Cade and Kai Williamson. Harborough registered 2 quick scores through Finn Carnduff and the industrious Fergus Hynard following great line breaks by James Andrews. Sils scored a late consolation try to give Harborough their second win of the morning 2-1.
Having already played 30mins of rugby the final game was split into 2 half’s to allow the hosts to change teams at halftime. The first half started well for Sils with them scoring a brilliantly worked try from deep. This seemed to inspire the boys into producing some of their best rugby. Precision passing from Callum Leat, Rodgers and Carnduff put James Andrews away in the corner to level things. This was backed up by a typical robust close range try from Ethan Shewring. 2-1 up at half time the boys took stock with an eye on completing the clean sweep. Having changed their complete team at half time Sils fresher legs were beginning to tell as they ran into 2 quick tries to go 3-2 up. The Harborough team couldn’t find an answer to why Sils were getting so much possession out wide. It became apparent with 2 minutes to go, as Sils were playing with an extra player on the field. With the teams once again with equal numbers Harborough rallied to score a late try through Carnduff to finish 3-3.
