The cool autumn weather provided the backdrop to this free flowing fast encounter between Harborough Rugby Club and many former players who had been coached by Martin. The current total of funds raised stands at £1,383. Thank you for your support, If you had a great time at the club or would like to support the cause you can donate here
Some things never change and Lewis Dyke picked up an injury in the warm up!!! Tom Dyke managed to stay injury free in a second half cameo in the Last Dance's three quarter line. There was a contrast of styles with Harborough's fitness and game plans showing all the signs of players that have played together for a number on months. The visitors had more of a Barbarians approach slinging the ball wide with pieces of individual skill that led to an exciting game for hundreds of spectators.
The game, although having a festival approach was extremely combative, with neither team wishing to concede territory or possession. With over 40 players ready for action, there was never a better day for rolling replacements.
A number of the visitors hadn't graced the pitch for a few years and soon found the Harborough pack a challenge to contain. Heavy breathing and hoping for a second wind were the order of the day. The Last Dance did stay strong and were always just ahead on the scoreboard running out as eventual winners 17-12.
Many thanks to Sam Hiner and Mike Harley for organisation and as Billy Blair smilingly commented ' Rugby was the Winner'.
Martin's wife Dawn said "It was an amazing day! Thanks to Sam Hiner for organising the charity rugby match in memory of my lovely husband Martin Dyke and in aid of Brain Research UK. Thanks also to all the players, parents, families, friends & supporters who came to watch and donated to this important charity. It was lovely to see everyone and a great time was had by all."
What a great afternoon on the pitch and evening in the clubhouse to celebrate one of Harborough's finest.
