Ed Duggan was firing on all cylinders for this game and scored what turned out to be the first of three tries early on with a break down the wing from a ball secured at the line out. Will Nijjer was as destructive as ever at Number 8, running hard and straight all game. His try took the score to 10 – 0.
Melton had a powerful pack and were winning a lot of ball at the set piece. Harborough needed to keep the ball alive to combat this and Cameron Jordan showed the way with a powerful break before offloading to Max Dalby to bulldoze over from the wing. Touching down close to the posts meant an easier conversion for Keiran Silcott.
Harborough seemed to have the upper hand in the backs and Jack Woodward made the most of his pace to take the score to 22 – 0. But Melton’s forward power was demonstrated before the half was out with a converted score under the posts from a driving maul.
Harborough were playing against the wind in the second half, but down the slope. Ross Primrose kicked out from the 22 and a fortunate bounce saw the ball rest in the arms of the galloping Alejandro Scott who evaded a couple of tackles before scoring under the posts, for Primrose to convert.
Melton came back again with a try under the posts by their forwards, which was converted to make the score 29 – 14 to Harborough.
Duggan took a quick tap penalty and found space to race over for his second, Huw Davies forged a gap for himself through the defence to touch down, and Duggan secured his hat trick with a jinking run. Silcott converted two of those tries to make the final score 48 – 12.
