Back at home after a number of away fixtures, and Harborough created a satisfying victory over Nuneaton.

Having fallen to a disappointing loss in the reverse fixture earlier in the season, the u15s needed a good display and a good warm up ahead of the Cup game next week. They got off to a flying start with a series of powerful rucks straight from the kick off and an early try for Will Nijjer, with Will Hallam converting.

Nuneaton then composed themselves and started to look strong and well organised. A lack of accuracy in the passing and some missed tackles, and Harborough were under pressure. Nuneaton took advantage to cross for a try, but they were not able to convert from out wide.

Harborough were putting together some really neat passages of play, with Tom Mercer and Morgan Jones stepping up to the mark in the starting line up. Oscar Kay was typically industrious, scrapping hard for the ball at the breakdown. It was Harborough who showed more of an attacking threat and were next to score, Huw Davies breaking the defensive line to take the score to 12 – 5.

Next came a piece of magic from Keiran Silcott. Collecting the ball from a kick into the Harborough half, he danced through a number of Nuneaton players before releasing Jack Woodward to race upfield and offload to Will Nijjer for his second try of the day.

A different kind of magic next from Woodward. Cameron Franklin gathered the ball from the restart and took the ball forward before Woodward was released on the wing and raced on, taking a beautiful step in field and scoring under the posts. Hallam again converted and the half time score was 24 – 5.

With a half time change at scrum half, Theo Haynes took the field and showed some fizz in an unfamiliar position. With the ball recycled quickly from attacking rucks, it was Ross Primrose who ghosted through the gap to score.

The last two scores belonged to the forwards, with a break by Harry Grimmett looking like he would score, but for a smart tackle by the Nuneaton full back. However, Grimmett offloaded to Hallam to score and convert. And Grimmett did cross the line for the last score to cap off a fine performance, with Hallam converting for a final score of 43 – 5.

This was a great work out for Harborough and the scoreline was perhaps a little unfair on the visitors, who competed well throughout.
