Keeping them on their Towcester

MHRUFC U15s Vs Towcester

It had been some years since the squad had faced Towcester. Their reputation as a quality team proceeds them, so the boys knew that it would be a very tough game.
Towcester set their stall out early and dominated the first of the four quarters that had been agreed in order that both squads, who were carrying substantial numbers of players, could get enough game time. Towcester play a good free flowing game which kept the Harborough boys on their toes. Harborough's defensive capabilities were sorely put to test as Towcester harried and pressed looking for a gap, they found one and crashed over for five points although the conversion fell woefully short of the posts. Ten minutes had elapsed and Harborough had barely crawled out of their own half, but persistence paid off with a good break by Seth Vials who levelled the score and Dawson who claimed the extra two points to put Harborough ahead. As the game continued Towcester were certainly dominating and dictating play. As they pressed for the line they found another gap and grabbed a second try missing the conversion though, and again as the second quarter drew to an end they grabbed a third try this time converting to end what was the half way marker at Towcester 17 Harborough 5

The third and fourth quarters were a very different affair. Harborough came out stronger and the pack started to dominate the breakdown. Towcester perhaps a little over confident with their lead somehow let the game slip. Connor Jenkinson led the charge breaking through to ground the ball and conversion from Dawson. Sam Dexter made a monster break through which left the Towcester backs counting his studs, Jenkinson in support took the offload and broke the line landing a try Dawson was unable to make the conversion though. Harborough's spirits lifted and now they took the game to Towcester, Dexter was able to claim another try this time after some prolonged driving over from the pack, and Dawson converted. In a reverse of the first quarter Towcester found themselves the ones pinned in their own twenty two. Harborough battered at the doors relentlessly but could make the break. Towcester being pressed so hard started to make mistakes in what had been a dogged defence. Getting up a little too fast at the breakdown gave Harborough a penalty right in front of the posts and Dawson made the call to kick and claimed an easy three points to end the game Harborough 29 Towcester 17.

It had been a fabulous game with excellent performances from both squads.
