A great match with great opposition

As the squad of u15s headed west along the M6 corridor the excitement of new opposition mounted but more importantly for the parents it dried up and almost blue sky was overhead. We were greeted by a very plush clubhouse and very wide 4G artificial pitch.

The whistle blew to start the game and the first period of joined up play lead to a host try and conversion. A swift regrouping of the Harborough players with a firm rallying cry from Reeves was swiftly acted upon by the forwards; moving the ball up the pitch and finished off ably by Van Amersfoort. 7-5.

With intensity building Harborough showed good passing and strong running with Pollard at the end of the back line crossing the line. 7-10

The game continued with a period of backwards and forwards between the two very equal teams. Finally a try and conversion by Van Amersfoort meant Harborough led 7-17. Not to be outdone Bournville came back strongly with a try and conversion (14-17).

In my opinion the best bit of play came next- a break from Bournville putting their backs into space and their winger running hard to the touch line – amazing last ditch tackles on our 10m line by Thompson and Foxon giving us the ability to show our strong passing and ball retention to move up the whole pitch and allow Van Amersfoort to score and convert.

The whistle blew from half time with the score 14-24

Bournville started out with avengence but this was equalled by all 15 Harborough players.
The first score in second half went to Harborough (Foxon) and the conversion pushed the score to 14-31.
Bournville’s skills showed themselves with their own fantastically judged kick out wide Was ably picked up by their winger who ran at speed for most of the pitch to score under the posts. ( 21-31)

The tit for tat battle continued but after a disallowed try Harborough finally breached the white line through Pollard. Still not belated the hosts fought back scoring a try and conversion.

Harborough came straight back with a try in the corner by Reeves converted from far right by Van Amersfoort.

Played continued still at pace – Harborough lost the line out but a knock on by Bournville gave Harborough the scrum on half way line. Strong passing brought Harborough onto the Bournville 22 but the ball was knocked on. Harbrough won the scrum but then lost the ball to Bournville who ran the pitch to score the try which was then converted.

Swiftly afterwards the referee blows for full time. The final score being 35-43.

A great match with great opposition. Thanks Bournville
