U15s played Leicester Forest, perennial County Cup winners for this age group, away from home. The fixture was played on the 1st team pitch with a large crowd enjoying some excellent rugby.
Harborough played up the slight slope and into the wind during the first half. Led by skipper for the day, Fergie H they found themselves 10-0 down within the first 10 minutes, largely through their own mistakes and some questionable decision making.
Heads did not drop however and Harborough were soon back on the front foot with stoic forward play culminating in a lovely try from a solid scrum and a simple scissors move between Charlie B and Ollie P, with Ollie touching down to make the score 10-5. The score remained 10-5 at half time following an exchange of attacks, repelled by both teams by excellent defensive play from both sides.
Harborough scored immediately after the break, finally realising their game plan of getting the ball wide quickly. Robert W finished off a lovely backs move with a try out wide. 10-10 with 20 minutes left to play.
Harborough put the pressure back on the hosts straight from the re-start, using the wind to clear their lines effectively and regaining possession further upfield. A Lineout on the opponent 22m was gathered by Harborough tight head for the day, DJ and offloaded to scrum half Will C . He cut through the opposition pack on a solo run, finishing in the corner. Harborough were in the lead for the first time in the match and weren’t looking in danger of losing it any time soon.
Harborough were yet again taking the fight to the hosts straight from the re-start. A fantastic team try was to follow with the ball being shifted the full width of the field left to right, recycled and then moved the full width of the field right to left with every back making a run and pass for second row Drahm P to pop up on the wing and touch down in the left corner! One for the highlights reel!
With the score at 20-10 and with Harborough firmly in control, the scoring wasn’t finished yet. Charlie B spotted a gap in the opponents back field and kicked into space. Finn C chased the kick, gathering the bouncing ball and acoring the try to put the result beyond doubt.
Final score:- Leicester Forest 10. Market Harborough 25
