Remembrance Sunday at MHRUFC

Market Harbough and Oadby Wyggs players stood shoulder to shoulder on Pitch 1 before kick off to pay their respects on Remembrance Sunday in front of a large crowd. The game was a competitive affair but was played in a very good spirit throughout.
Oadby struck first, soon after the kick off with a try in the corner. Their physically larger pack working together effectively to score in the corner. 0-5.
Harborough worked their way back into the game, linking several phases together to gain territory, however they were unable to put points on the board. Harborough eventually got on to the scoreboard with a set move from their own half. The Harborough scrum, which was a highlight for the whole game, won possession and Albert A passed the ball behind the dummy runner, finding Ollie P in space out wide. Ollie straightened up and accelerated between the outside centre and winger, running half the length of the pitch to finish under the posts for an easy conversion. 7-5.
Harborough scored again soon after with aggressive defence putting pressure on the Oadby backs and forcing the handling error. Robert W pounced on the loose ball and ran in unopposed under the posts with Albert A converting. 14-5 at half time.
Wholesale changes at half time with 15 new players on the pitch. Harborough were quickly into their stride, winning a scrum 10 metres from their opponents try line. Jack E picked up from the number 8 position, embarking on an arcing run to finish under the posts with Charlie B converting. 21-5.
Lots of attritional rugby was to follow with handling mistakes and offsides from both teams. Both defences remained solid for large parts of the second half until Oadby won a free kick on Harborough’s 22m line. Strong ball carrying by the Oadby forwards and excellent tackling from Harborough defenders eventually led to a Maul developing on Harborough’s 5m line. Oadby crashed over to make the score 21-12 with no further points being scored.
A good result, although the Harborough players agreed that it was not their most fluent performance of the season, but still an enjoyable game for all involved.
