MHRUFC U15 v Daventry

A decent crowd gathered to enjoy 2 very well matched sides battle it out in windy conditions. Harborough played with the wind first half and after 10 minutes of very competitive rugby, found themselves on the opposition 22m line with a penalty awarded. Harborough took the points on offer through the reliable boot of Charlie B. (3-0).
A combative period of rugby followed with possession regularly changing hands, however Harborough managed to make the first breakthrough with a
Robert W try, running wide to finish in the corner to make the score 8-0.
Daventry responded with intent following another exchange of possession. Daventry took advantage of an unguarded ruck to finish from relatively close range ( 8-5 ).
Harborough remained positive and went on the offensive from the kick off. They found themselves under the posts with a penalty in hand. The harborough Scrum half opted to go left, with every chance of scoring, but the referee called play back. Harborough then quickly chose to go right at the second time of asking with the backs showing quick hands, allowing Luke A to crash over in the corner just before the half time whistle. (13-5)
Harborough made 7 changes to the forward pack for the second half. Several harborough missed tackles allowed Daventry to score under the posts soon after the half time kick off. (13-12). Harborough were on the back foot, stoutly defending for multiple phases, but the pressure eventually told with the visitors scoring in the corner. (13-17).
The second half became particularly attritional, however Harborough maintained discipline in the final minutes and took the territorial advantage on offer following opposition backchat to the referee. In the dying seconds, Albert A received the ball in space, dummied a pass and broke through the defensive line at pace to score a fabulous try. (18-17). Finn C slotted the conversion as the final whistle sounded. An excellent game played by two competitive, well drilled sides. (20-17).
