County Cup QF

A very wet Coalville pitch and a strong wind were not the ideal conditions for this Harborough side who usually enjoy playing with pace and width. Today was a day for a change of style, however Harborough started with inventive intent, forwards winning the ball In the rucks and combining well with the backs to eventually get the ball out to left wing Ollie P who accelerated powerfully, beating defenders to open the scoring, finishing in the corner 2 minutes into the game, (0-5). Harborough went quickly on the offensive again, playing into the wind but moving the wet ball left to right and back again with confidence. This time the forwards kept the ball when they neared the opposition try line with Fergie scoring from a pick and go at the base of a ruck, converted by Finn C. (0-12). Another excellent period of possession and continuity in phase play led to the ball passing through multiple hands before being finished by Robert (0-17). Harborough were firing on all cylinders at the 15 minute mark. Full back Finn C popped up on the wing, finishing off in the corner after impressive handling by the half backs, centres and right wing (0- 22 ). The final 10 minutes of the first half were stop/start with mistakes from both sides. Harborough went into the half time break in a commanding position.
The second half started with Harborough on the scoreboard again. Charlie kicking through for Pietro to gather before the ball eventually ended up with Robert to score his second, converted by Finn C. (O- 29). Handling errors were a feature of the next 15 minutes of play with plenty of scrummages required, however Harborough finished the game as they had started, by scoring tries. Charlie crashed over after strong carries from Harborough forwards. (0-34). Drahm scored the pick of the tries soon after, taking the ball on a fantastic line, and continuing his solo rampaging run to score (0-39). Harborough second row Sam popped up on the wing to score Harborough’s penultimate try of the encounter in the corner shortly before Albert, fed by a creative over the head pass by Robert, burst through the Coalville midfield to score. Albert converted his own try to move the score beyond 50 points which signalled the end of the game.
Another very good defensive performance from this side who have a semi final at home v Syston to look forward to on March 13th.
