Melton Mauled

Harborough’s u13s came away victorious again, overcoming a spirited display by a well organised Melton side.

The first try was scored in less than a minute, with Henry Povoas giving the hosts a taste of what was to come. Melton fought back with commitment, but Harborough won a scrum against the head and the forwards rattled up the field for Povoas to score again.

Povoas provided the platform for the next score, picking up a loose ball as the Melton scrum was pushed backwards, and passing to Sam Pindling who stepped inside the defence for a great try. Max Dalby hit the conversion to take the score to 17 – 0.

Melton again fought back hard and forced some errors by the Harborough boys. But another forward break, this time with Huw Davies carrying, saw the ball out to Ross Primrose, who scorched over to make the half time score 22 – 0.

Melton were not to be cowed. They continued to ruck well and win ball, but just could not cope with the power Harborough threw at them. William Hallam added to his sterling work all game with a tremendous drive from the base of a scrum before passing to Povoas to collect his third.

Henry Ingram on the wing was brought down five yards out, but he’d made the gap and it was again Povoas on hand to take the scoring pass. Povoas was hauled down just short himself a few minutes later and this time it was Cameron Jordan there to take the score.

Scrum half Matthew Stamp got himself on the scoresheet, squeezing through the smallest of gaps and diving for the line. Stamp scored the next try too, spinning out of a tackle on the line having picked the ball up from the base of a ruck.

Pindling topped off a great performance with another break that resulted in a try for Dalby, before grabbing the last try of the game for himself.

The whole team played well with excellent support running throughout. Having conceded only one try in the last six games, the u13s are on fire.
