Oundle Overcome

Oundle were the visitor’s last weekend and put up a spirited display before being eventually overcome by Harborough.

The home side got off to a fine start with some strong running on the wing from Henry Ingram and good interplay between backs and forwards. James Melody was quick to spot the first scoring opportunity with a quick tap penalty for Harborough to take the lead, converted by Tom Pope. Oundle came back with determination and levelled the scores with a converted try from their Number 8.

Max Dalby scored for Harborough before half time to convert the dominant possession, Pope again converting to take the score to 14 – 7.

The second half was all Harborough on the scoreboard. First up was Henry Povoas, taking the finishing pass after a searing run by Ross Primrose. Thomas Mercer converted. It was Primrose’s turn next, this time taking the pass from Povoas and bringing the score up to 31 – 7. Povoas provided the scoring pass for Thomas Mercer for the next try. Then, winning the ball at a ruck deep in their own half, Povoas ran the length of the pitch to rack up another score, which Thomas Mercer again converted.

Putting Oundle under pressure on their try line led to the next score, with Primrose this time intercepting a loose pass to scamper over underneath the posts. Thomas Mercer again hit the target for a commanding 45 – 7 lead. Dalby rounded off the scoring with a fine break through the centre of the field to round off a resounding 50 -7 victory.
