County Cup Victory

Harborough u13s showed their County Cup ambition in the first year of Junior Rugby for this squad, beating Syston 54 – 0 in the first round on Sunday.

The team were very quick to score, with Henry Povoas crossing the line in the first few minutes. Tom Pope hit the post with his first attempted conversion, the blustery wind just taking it at the last second. Povoas was soon over again following a series of drives from the forwards, and this time Pope mastered the wind to take the score to 12 – 0.

The next try came from James Melody who dived over the line, again following a series of drives by the forwards. A similar build preceded the next try. This time it was Will Hallam on the opposite flank who scored, and Pope again managed the conversion. Just before half time, Gerry Clarke took the ball at pace from Povoas and took the score at the break to 29 – 0.

Povoas was soon on the scoresheet in the second half, driving over from the base of a ruck. The next score earned deserved applause from both sets of supporters. Thomas Mercer passed the ball out from a scrum to Ross Primrose, who sliced through the opposition defence before slipping the ball to Povoas to score.

Another drive from the base of a scrum had Povoas cross for his fifth try of the day. Primrose took a well earned score of his own after another wonderful break, before Will Hallam wrapped up the scoring with drive over the line in the dying minutes. A marvellous win to carry them through to the next round.
