New Players Light the Fuse
This season’s new recruits to the u14s put in a good collective performance alongside the established squad for a convincing win against Belgrave on Sunday.
First score came from Ed Duggan, showing his pace on the wing to mark his arrival in the squad. Duggan soon doubled his tally, taking the scoring pass from captain Will Hallam, who also converted to take the score to 12 – 0.
Some lovely handling through the forwards and backs saw Sam Pindling get his name on the scoresheet with a strong run. With the forwards dominant and Parth Bhatt proving a handful, Theo Haynes at scrum half bossed his pack before sniping over on the blindside for a great score. Hallam again converted.
Haynes was instrumental in the next try to set up a hat trick for Duggan, breaking from a powerful scrum. Hallam was successful with the conversion to make the half time score 38 – 0.
Oscar Kay, another new recruit, made his presence felt in the scrum, disrupting any attacking momentum from the opposition. Morgan Jones also made some positive breaks on the wing.
Hallam bagged two more himself before Duggan capped his day with another fine score. The last try went to another new boy, James Merryweather, powering over to close the game out at 60 – 0.
