Injury and illness meant some positional changes for the u14s on Sunday, but they played marvellously as a squad to run in nine unanswered tries against a powerful and committed Long Eaton side.
Great performances across the side started when Cameron Jordan stole the ball at the first line out, offloading to Huw Davies for the first try of the game. Harborough put the ball through the phases and dominated possession, but Long Eaton put in some strong tackles to make the home side work. Davies scored the second try following a break by Morgan Jones who passed to Ross Primrose to set up the score.
Henry Povoas was next on the scoresheet, collecting the ball after a charge down at close range. This time Will Hallam converted to take the score to 17 – 0. Tom Pope was the architect of the next try, enjoying a fine game at fly half. Pope made break before the ball found it’s way to Hallam, who converted his own score. A long range break from Hallam for his second took the score to 29 – 0 at half time.
Pope continued to mix up the play in the second half, his distribution and kicking options adding some real variety. Much improved rucking from Harborough saw Parth Bhatt run well to set up Povoas for his second try of the game, Hallam again converting.
Ed Duggan got in on the act, sprinting down the right wing to take the score to 41 – 0. Despite a spirited effort, the relentless pressure from Harborough was beginning to show. Povoas bagged his hat trick following more quick hands and Duggan rounded off a fabulous display with another sprint to make the final score 51 – 0.
