The u14s recovered from last week’s defeat to bounce back with a win away at Ashby, going in to the Christmas break on a high.

Ashby proved to be very determined opponents, but Harborough caught them napping in the first few minutes. Ross Primrose made a break down the left and Cameron Jordan was in support to open the scoring. Jordan doubled his tally with a pick and drive from the base of a ruck, taking the score to 10 – 0.

The counter rucking from Ashby was now pushing Harborough back. But Tom Mercer at scrum half was sniping all the time to disrupt the opposition. With the ball squirting out from a ruck, it was Harborough’s Max Dalby who had the presence of mind to collect and scamper over for a try. On a difficult blustery day for the kickers, the half ended at 15 – 0.

With a few changes at half time and all the substitutes used, Harborough began a second half blitz. Henry Povoas had the bit between his teeth and scored from a pick up at the base of a scrum. Povoas rattled in three more in quick succession with the home side finding it difficult to bring him down. Tom Pope slotted two conversions.

Will Hallam was on for the second half and scored a breakaway try, before Theo Haynes made a break from full back to offload for Povoas to wrap things up.

A well earned break over Christmas now, but hopefully not too many mince pies! There is plenty of rugby still to be played this season.
