Harborough underlined their victory in last week’s County Cup with a convincing win over local rivals, Kettering.

With a cold wind blowing, Harborough got off to a good start but took a while to hit their stride. Ed Duggan got things moving with a magnificent tackle and rip to secure possession. The ball came to Huw Davies from the ensuing ruck, who headed straight for the try line.

The second score came immediately from the restart. Alejandro Scott gathered and ran right at the opposition. With exhortations from his team mates to keep going, he did just that and touched down under the posts to make for a simple conversion. Harborough were now 12 – 0 up and beginning to fire.

The Harborough pack had a different look to it with Joe Cleaver, Keiran Silcott and Parth Bhatt in the front row proving too powerful for the opposition. With a ball won against the head, it was Davies again through on the burst, with Will Hallam again converting.

Hallam and Davies were involved in the build up to the next score. Hallam made the break with Davies in support. A timely offload to Henry Povoas saw him break for the line, and Hallam was on target with the conversion.

Davies completed his hat trick before half time with another break through the midfield, and Hallam converted to make the half time score 31 – 0.

Harborough were still firing in the second half. Mark Stribling, on at full back, made a break downfield but was tackled a few metres short. The ball was secured at the ruck and Povoas kept the scoreboard ticking over.

Duggan got the reward his efforts deserved with the next try. A flying break down the wing out-ran his opposite number who had been a close match for his speed so far. Tom Pope converted in blustery conditions.

Povoas made sure of his hat trick with the next try, and this time it was Stribling’s turn to take the conversion to rack up the half century. The final two tries of the day came from Hallam and Duggan, with Stribling and Hallam converting one each to make the final score 64 – 0. A fitting follow up for the County Champions.
