An entertaining morning of rugby

On a bracing Halloween morning the under 14s squad gathered to face local rivals South Leicester. Although the South Leicester squad was depleted, Harborough were able to loan them players to ensure that both sides fielded 15 players and the game was fair and competitive. The sun shone, encouraging both teams to play attractive running rugby.
Harborough started strongly with some fluent running rugby and soon crossed for a try scored by Reece Pearce. Others followed in the first period of play scored by Charlie Jones, Jamie Talbot and Jamie Trinder.
During the second period, Jake Dowling used the wind intelligently to kick into space and allow speedster Elliott Powell to dot down for a brace of tries. Tries for Fergus Gilligan and another for Elliott Powell in the latter stages of the game completed the Harborough scoring. The opposition, strengthened by Harborough players showed determination throughout, scoring some excellent tries of their own. Many Harborough players also shone while wearing the South Leicester colours, notably Jamie Talbot who scored 4 tries for the green and whites.
The final score was Market Harborough 48 - South Leicester 36.
Every one of the 22 Harborough squad played at least 20 minutes for South Leicester, enjoying the opportunity to help out the opposition in what was an entertaining match for our loyal supporters. The South Leicester coaches were very complimentary about the attitude of our players when playing in both home and away colours. Well done lads, it was an entertaining mornings rugby all played in the best traditions of the game.
