A high tempo game with good effort from all

We were treated to another glorious Sunday morning of weather for playing rugby. We were hosts to a Long Buckby side that has joined forces with St. Andrews to give them adequate numbers, it has also added some good strong players to their squad, which set up a good contest.
MH had 25 players available, so we took the decision to play 3 x 20 minutes halves! (Ha!), giving us the opportunity to move players around and experiment a little!

Captain for the day was Reece Pearce who won the position with his promise to the team in the dressing room, to bring a new exciting moves to the backline..!!
The first 5 or 6 minutes were an even contest with some strong tackling and a bit of ‘getting to know you’ rugby. It was then punctuated with a well-deserved try from Long Buckby. This seemed to act as a wakeup call to the MH team who proceeded to ruck well and move the ball out wide with a almost casual ease, they were rewarded with a super try finished off by a well-motivated Fergus Gilligan.
We went into the second ‘half’ with 10 new players…forcing the guys o readjust and turn up the level of communication. It seemed to work. Adam Tyas bossed well from number 10, and judging by Jamie Trinder performance it looks as if he has forgotten his footballing background, showed some excellent character!
We had some moments of pure magic from a few players today. Ali Kamel has developed a very affective machine gun hand off technique, Alex Tripp was running lines through the centre that East Midland trains would be proud of, Toby Gower was our champion of the dark arts of ball stealing, Jake Dowling’s Dad could learn a thing or two from his sons faultless passing, Max the Destroyer Gent seems to have developed a love of the collision and Charlie Jones was eating up the yards live PacMan collecting dots!!
MH managed to score 6 tries….and didn’t convert even one of them, so we have room for improvement!

It was a high tempo game with good effort from all and lots of great ideas being tested.
Well done boys!
