On the first proper Autumnal fixture of this season, the under 11’s had a mixed result: played two, won one, lost one.

It was very much an inconsistent performance, with some magic moments from the home side, which was generally marred by a failure to engage in both the ruck and the tackle, which will no doubt give the coaches something to work on going forward.

Kettering took an early lead in the first match , but this only lasted for a few minutes after a bone crushing tackle from George Williams led to Dylan Williams dancing over the line in his new red boots making it level pegging.

At half time, it was one all, and when Arthur Adams carried over the try line, things were looking good for the Aces.

However the looming spectre of those tackling and handling errors gave Kettering a further 4 tries in the second half, and unfortunately a flying consolation try from Jonny Sobek in the dying moments did nothing to change the result.

The second match started off well for the Aces, with Daniel Weston’s sprint of the entire pitch giving the home side an early lead.

Kettering’s response came soon after, levelling the score, and Steve Beaufoy’s coaching talk between matches clearly made an effect as there was some very positive tackling from Harborough, which Kettering shrugged off to take the lead.

Once more a response from Daniel Weston levelled the game , and then a jinking run from Joab Tiney took them into the lead.

A further try from Weston made it 4 -2, and a hat-trick for the match, and in a reversal of the first game, a late consolation for Kettering took it to 4-3 to the home team.

Notable tackling from Joseph Baverstock and George Williams throughout the game, plus an absolute stonker from Joseph Robinson, taking out a player three times his size, showed the rest of the team how it should be done.

Overall some excellent running and passing from the Aces, but they do have some work to do or they might find a team with quicker feet capitalising on tackling errors.
