Hurricanes back in action

The Hurricanes had their first competitive games for many weeks and on a very wet and muddy pitch but this did not deter them.

Syston bought 2 mixed teams out of their 4 teams which they then split in to an A and a B and we played their A team.

The game started well for Harborough with a try for Thomas. The whole team were playing well and worked together as a team despite their many weeks away. Soon we got our second try as James put the ball over the line. The tackling was much better than it has been sometimes and this meant that Syston just could not get through. Matthew scored our third try with great support from all of the team. More excellent play followed with a wonderful tackle by James as he took their player in to touch. A great run down the pitch by Adam and a pass to Jake for another try and then one more from Adam finished the first half with the Hurricanes in a strong position. Syston came back fighting and their defence was superb in the second half but so was ours. Syston had the ball for much of the game this half but just could not make headway through us. Eventually we got a turnover ball and George managed to score. Leo finished the game with our 7th try right on the touch line and the final whistle.
Final score 7v0.

Our second game was against a touring side from Atherstone. This team were not very big but they were tough and they pushed us back in the first part of the first half taking us by surprise. We got a turnover ball several times but just did not seem to be able to do anything with it for a while as we ran in to touch or sent erratic passes into nowhere. Eventually we put together some really nice moves and George made it to the touch line for the first try. This was quickly followed by a try from Fred again with lots of passes and team work from the whole team. The second half began with the Atherstone heads down and so we began to be able to dominate despite some silly mistakes. Come on boys! Stay in touch and keep the tackles low. We got it together with a try from James followed by some excellent team play resulting in a try from George. Our tackling went from strength to strength, particularly Jack ‘the tackling machine’ of course. James rounded the game off with another try.
Final score 5v0.

The third game was against Syston A again. We tried to even things up a bit by playing against a team of 8 but we still got 2 very quick tries by James and George. The coaches bought in new rules: No tries without at least 3 passes. No one getting more than 1 try until everyone had one. This still did not slow us down, Jack ran all the way down the pitch for try number 3 then Adam ran all the way down but remembered the new rules in the dead ball area so passed the ball. After 3 more passes and some scary tackles Leo finally scored the final try of the day in this last shortened match.
Final score 4v0.

Well done boys, some great play in your first matches back for 2014.
