U9 Menaces travelled to Oakham where the breezy conditions made the temperature feel even colder than it already was. Harborough, Oakham and Kesteven were sharing the friendly fixture and all contributed players to form a Barbarians side, who were the first opponents for the Menaces.
Ollie Barbosa scored a couple of tries to get them going followed by Ben Clowes but the Baa Baas pulled a couple back. However, further tries for Joe Hall (2), Ned Bellamy and a third for Barbosa sealed a 7:2 win.
The next game against Oakham was a much closer affair. Clowes scored again to open the account but Oakham levelled. Joe Halls then scored for the Menaces to retake the lead and Max Fletcher scored for the third. Oakham pulled one back but the Menaces defence held firm to secure the win.
The final match was against a second Oakham team and Menaces were back on fire again. Callum Jones scored first, but again Oakham levelled. Bellamy and Fletcher then scored two tries each, following good work from Halls and Josh Bambini Meadows before Oakham could reply again but a final try by Barbosa secured the 6:2 win.
There were some strong performances on the day, with Halls putting in some very solid but fair tackles to stop opponents in their track and the usual suspects scoring and defending well. Clowes should be pleased with his performance as he has not been playing the game as long as many of his teammates and scored some good tries as well as tackled well.
