In their first ever home festival, U7's win the cup

MHRUFC Under 7’s enjoyed their first ever home festival of competitive rugby and came away with the trophy.

Harborough entered 2 squads into the festival. Squad 1 in their first game against Peterborough Lions, (team line up Green, Jones, Milne, Riley, Salvesen, Walsh, Ward, Poyser, Barbosa and Dewar) had a good start with both teams scoring early tries. Dewar scored a hatrick, and at half time Harborough were leading 5-4. The second half saw some great tacking from Harborough but Peterborough came back to draw 9-9.

Second game against Stoneygate both teams played a good defensive game with Ward putting a hatrick on the score board. Barbosa followed that with 2 tries. After a close fought contest Harborough won 8-7.

Their 3rd game against Nuneaton was a high scoring games with Riley putting 5 tries onto the score board closely followed by Barbosa who scored 4. Nuneaton came back every time Harborough went into the lead, except the last and Harborough went won 12-11.

In the last game against Old Northamptionians, from the start Harborough struggled to get onto the score board at half time they were 5-2 down. Harborough started second stronger, getting on the score board first then after a turn over the score was 5-4. The brief reprieve wasn’t enough though and the final score was 9-6 to ON’s. This saw them miss out on progressing to the final, ON's winning the group.

The other Harborough under 7's squad, line up Ned Bellamy, Edward Bradnam, Ronnie Collis, Ned Corry, Hal Eastwood, Max Fletcher, Thomas Kimble, James Parr, Harry Slaughter, and Josh Tomlinson faired even better.

Harborough won their first game against Silhillians 9-8 with tries from Kimble, Parr x 2, Slaughter, Bradnam, Eastwood, Bellamy, Tomlinson and Fletcher.
The second game against Wymondham was a tightly fought game with Harborough coming away with the win 10-8. This saw some great tries and turn over ball from good tagging too. Scores from Bellamy (2), Tomlinson, Parr, Collis, Fletcher to name a few.
The players showed great attitude in this match turning the match around to win … a great team effort.

Third up were Stoneygate and Harborough played a great game to win 9-2. Eastwood made a great pick up to score making his tally 2. Fletcher got the ball on the Harborough try line and ran the length of the pitch to score, adding 2 to the score sheet. Other scores came from Collis, Corry, Bellamy and Tomlinson.

It came down to the final match. Harborough needed a draw or a win to go through to the final. They played a fantastic game winning 6-5 with a great turn over ball from Tomlinson, intercepting a Kenilworth pass to score. Also on the scoreboard were Slaughter, Bradnam x2 and Eastwood.

The final between Harborough and Old Northamptionians was a tightly fought games between 2 great sides. With scores from Tomlinson, Bradnam x2, Eastwood and Fletcher it came down to the last play of the game. The final result being a draw 6-6. Both teams played fantastically and shared the trophy.
