John passed away peacefully at home on 1st September 2025, aged 84 years. Those that played cricket and rugby have waxed lyrical about his competitive on-field spirit. Those that shared his company in the clubhouse will smile at his stories and tales. Laughter was never far away when JC was about. John was an avid supporter of the Kibworth/Harborough 1st team and was ever present on match days to cheer on the lads. Michael King, Barry Rolfe, Dick Hall and John Curtis were a fantastic travelling supporters group.
Thank you John, for your camaraderie, bon amie and support. Tony Cochrane, MHRUFC Chairman and President Adey Neal send condolences, on behalf of the club, to the Curtis family.
John’s funeral service will be at Edgar Newman Chapel, Warren Hill Crematorium, Kettering on Friday 3rd October at 1.00pm. All who knew John are welcome to attend. Welsh rugby shirts are encouraged or please wear a splash of red. Family flowers only.
Afterwards - please join the family at the Market Harborough Rugby Club 2-6 pm
Donations, if desired, for Alzheimer’s Research UK may be made online at www.jstampandsons.co.uk or sent to J. Stamp & Sons, Funeral Directors of Market Harborough. Tel 01858 462524.
We've gathered a few tributes that have been sent in by former Kibworth RUFC players
Richard Hall - For members of a certain age JC (as he was affectionately called) was a legendary figure, a fierce competitor on the pitch and a fine fellow in the bar. JC was a passionate Welsh patriot who was as irritating as hell when Wales were in the ascendancy! Rest in Peace my friend.
Barry Rolfe - Good night my friend JC. RIP
Dave Coe - Great rugby player, great cricketer, wonderful friend. One of the very very best RIP "Curt" It was a privilege to have known you, shared the rugby and cricket field with you and to have enjoyed so many Saturday nights with you (incredible times never to be forgotten).
Jack Hartley - He was such a great human being, he deserves comments all over the place. It was a real privilege to know John, his sense of humour, the banter about his "Welshness", skill with a ball in both cricket and rugby, are all overshadowed by his love for his family.
Mike Harley - Legend! Thoughts are with you all.
Adam Shepherd - Deepest sympathies. Thinking of you all at this difficult time.
Phil Jarvis – A true rugby man, Welsh fire, but above all mischievous and great fun with the troops in the after match debriefs. MHRUFC is all the better for your game time, character and company JC.
Clive Giles - Yes lovely man condolences to all the family
Nick Staff - Very sad news. Condolences to all. A top man. A real character and fierce competitor. I remember him well from my early cricketing days. They don't make them like that anymore.
David Ronald - Really sorry to hear such sad news. A cracking proud Welshman
Who was such fun to be with and great memories and laughter of his antics and time at the rugby club
Andy Horne - A true legend, such a lovely man. Love and thoughts with you all. X
