Market Harborough carry the spirit of rugby to twickenham stadium!

MH RUFC19 May 2013 - 17:20

Today members of Market Harborough senior squad travelled down to Twickenham Stadium to play in the Greene King Sevens Festival of Rugby.

The team left Harborough bright and early for a road trip to the home of English rugby. Coach Billy Blair commented that the atmosphere on board the team bus was 'buzzing'.

The competition consisted two pools of seven team competing for four semi-final places.

Following defeats of 1-0 to York Sports Club and 1-0 to Driffield Rugby Club, Market Harborough secured wins in 4 consecutive fixtures. Two 1-0 victories over Nuneaton Old Edwardians and Greene King Invitation 7 were followed by a 3-1 victory over Faucet Inns. Although Harborough beat the eventual tournament winners Mansfield Town it turned out to be their final game of the day. Finnishing third in their group was not quite enough to make the semi-finals.

The squad was supported by local gym and fitness providers 'The Training Shed' and Chris Stankiewicz provided the team physio support for the trip.

The try scorers across all games were Dan Peart, Luke Riordan, Dan Bailey, Ed Bale, Ed Sumpter and a Chris Owen brace.

A cracking day of rugby which was a greta end to a successful season!
