Ian Smith:
Whilst the word legend often gets over used the former Leicester Tigers Flanker and Captain is a true Leicester Tigers Legend having made 331 First XV appearances including 5 John Player Cup Finals between 1978 – 1982 (Winning 3 of them) and scoring 67 tries in the process. An uncompromising player and hugely successful coach who has coached both the Leicester Tigers Senior and Academy sides, England Students and England U19’s (in both 6 Nations and World Cup competitions). As Oakham School’s Director of Rugby he has coached the various year groups to several prestigious Daily Mail Cup finals. Ian coaches the Leicestershire County Senior side having lead them to a number of Twickenham Finals in recent years. It is Ian’s wealth of experience in working with young talented players which is a huge asset to this current crop of young players who have high aspirations for the coming season.
Rich Bowden:
Rich started his coaching career under ex Leicester Tigers Players Steve Booth and Dosser Smith at South Leicester and has gone on to work with Dosser within the County Senior Squad for the past 3 years and it is this established working relationship that they now bring to Harborough. Rich is very familiar with Harborough’s league having been brought in to coach at Vipers and turn the senior set up around following the relegation of the First XV to level 8. He helped them get promoted and consolidated themselves in level 7 whilst also bringing through the quality young players from the colts teams and in doing so they also managed a Cup Win, Cup Runners up, 10's tournament Winners and reaching the quarter finals of the National cup in 2015. An RFU level 2 coach specialising in Backs play and defensive organisation. Rich is keen to work with a club who have an exceptional mini and juniors set up which provides so much home-grown talent to the senior squads and that was very unlucky not to get promoted last season.
This also gives the players the chance to train and play in front of County coaches week in week out and press for county honours.
