Stan was a founder member of Kibworth RFC and a member of the club for many years returning regularly to the Kibworth reunion lunches. Our thoughts are with friends and family.
Thanks to David Coe for the following directions:
Horsham St Faith Crematorium is as follows:
75 Manor Manor Road
Horsham St. Faith
Norwich
NR10 3LF
From Harborough if anyone is going I would suggest A14 - A11 - A47 - take the A47 on the Norwich Southern By pass signposted to Great Yarmouth but do not go to GY as you should filter left onto the Northern Distributor Road and then follow the NDR taking the HOLT turn off.
The following is from the Wymondham RFC website.
Head Teacher, founding member of Wymondham RFC & Red Lion award holder
Stan Kelly, who has died at the age of 95, was a fervent supporter of both Leicester Tigers and Wymondham RFC.
The first Head Teacher of Robert Kett Middle School, Norfolk's first purpose-built Middle School, he attended the founding meeting of the club following a newspaper advertisement proposing a club should be formed. He was elected Chairman and chaired the club from 1972 to 1976 and again, for a further five years, from 1979 to 1984, when he then became President, until 1987.
He was involved with all aspects of the early development of the club which was, for a short period, based at the Cross Keys, followed by the Queens Head and, eventually, the Cock Public House, before the club's move to permanent grounds at Tuttles Lane – the then home ground having been at the High School. He was even successful in moving the club to Bell Rope Lane for one season, but because of the logistics and the state of the playing surface, the club returned to the High School.
Stan played his club rugby at Kibworth RFC, in Leicestershire, eventually settling as a prop forward. He maintained his connections with Kibworth RFC for many seasons, and for some years Kibworth played an annual fixture against Wymondham for the 'Wymkib Trophy', some times overnighting in the club house with sleeping bags, a barbeque and much liquid celebration. Stan's son John is a former club captain and coached the club as Team Manager from 1988 to 1991.
Stan will be sadly missed, and our sympathies and our sincere condolences go to his family and friends.
