Harborough 2nds conquered the windy conditions and battled hard to beat a determined Bosworth team

A howling westerly wind greeted both teams as it swept across the exposed Leicestershire/ Warwickshire countryside. Harborough elected to play with the wind in the first half and the decision soon paid dividends with scrum half Josh Haynes running in from the half way line. Haynes successfully converted from directly in front of the posts.

The visitors were soon crossing the whitewash again as Bosworth's defenders were committed to tackle the ball carrier which left Aaron Lyle. with one man to beat, on the wing. A strong injection of pace saw him score Harborough's second try.

The wind played a major part in the next try as Charlie Foskett's kick from inside Harborough's half sailed down the pitch. It looked like several Bosworth defenders had it covered but they hadn't taken account of the 'Thorpe Express'. The young Harborough winger overtook everyone to gather and touch down in the corner.

Harborough backs looked dangerous with ball in hand and on another attack Jamie Thorpe kicked ahead and touched down in similar style to his first try. Throughout the remainder of the first half Harborough had to battle against a determined Bosworth pack who tore into the visitors on countless occasions. Bosworth did score before half time after confusion in the Harborough back line allowed the home team to pounce on a loose ball under the posts. Half time Bosworth 7 Harborough 22.

Against the wind in the second half, Harborough's pack were magnificent with Foskett, Dyke, Charlesworth, French and Robinson leading the charge. Sam Hiner gave a master class in the lineout and Dan Carter was never far from the action. Sam Blades continually wrestled the ball from Bosworth forwards. Although sometimes a little too upright in ruck and maul the visitor's forwards certainly raised their game.

Behind the pack Harry Hurst fielded several high kicks and set off on a number of blistering runs and was unlucky not to score. Henry Davis also gave an excellent display at full back. Lee Butler and George Lee punched holes though the mid field and one or two of Andy Jarvis's kicks bounced favourably for Harborough attackers. Bosworth camped down in Harborough territory and collected a misdirected grubber kick from Harborough and scored under the posts. That brought the score to 14-22 and it looked very much like a tight finish was likely.

Harborough were foiled in several attacks and decided to take a penalty kick in front of the posts which meant Bosworth then had to score three times. Although the home team threatened, Harborough's defence was solid and began to spend more time in Bosworth territory.

In the final few seconds the 16.00 train from Market Harborough was on the fast track to the Bosworth try line. Jamie Thorpe completed his second hat trick of the season beating several defenders and sealed a 30-14 victory for Harborough. The 2nds continue to the top the league table at the half way point of the season.
