The seconds were bolstered by a few first team regulars and started the game strongly after being fortunate not to have conceded a try in the first minute – after the referee was unsighted.
Steph Ziemelis rounded off a good move to power over from short range to get Harborough on the score sheet.. Thereafter, some scrappy play let Oadby back into the game although Shaun Morris was cruelly denied a try – again the referee was blindsided. Then Harborough leaked a try , penalty and converted try and it began to look as though it might be a long afternoon. Step forward a bulldozer, in the form of Aaron Llyle (pictured above), who blitzed all comers to get Harborough back in the game although they still trailed 10-15 at half time.
With the wind at their backs, Harborough scored straight after the restart through Jamie Thorpe, the Harborough Express was resting quietly in the sidings when he sprung into life with an opportunist try. The visitors then scored an excellent team try, straight off the top of the lineout and out along the line via a well executed move. Aaron Llyle scored and Harborough took the lead.
However Harborough’s malaise and poor discipline encouraged Oadby to strike back and score a converted try and penalty to lead 25 v 22 with just ten minutes to go.
Harborough then tightened up their game and showed great spirit to score two quick tries. The first when Jamie Thorpe jinked in with fine footwork. The second came when Ben Wade darted over after a brilliant strike against the head. This put the game beyond Oadby and Harborough finished winners 34 – 25.
Coach Jamie Robertson commented "It should have been an easier win but the team showed a steely resolve and good rugby when needed"
