A scratch Harborough team travelled to Mens Own for the penultimate game of the season

Harborough had struggled to get a team but thanks to a few guest players travelled with 17, if you include Club Chairman Phil Jarvis!!

Eventually all turned up at the correct Northampton club (no names no pack drill Paul Wilson, who completed a tour of Old Scouts). He arrived with 'Ant or Dec' who completed the back row jigsaw.

Rather surprisingly, for this time of the year, overnight torrential rain lay in puddles on the 2nd team pitch. To the team's delight, Harris Medwell was upended in the deep end in the first tackle of the match.
Jack Brown, John 'Corby' and Stefan Zielmelis also scored with a Joe Whitworth conversion completing the first half scoring. Indeed Stef was glad to make up for a early match hiccup on the wing.

Mens Own started to get into the game and scored the best try of the afternoon with a length of the pitch move with great off loading.

The second half saw skipper George (Sunny not Sonny-Bill Williams)Lee complete his half-time master class in ref chat. Then moving from centre to scrum half to No 8 he was in the thick of the action scoring a well worked try. John Corby touched down twice to complete a fine hat trick of tries. Henry Davis knocked over a couple of conversions and scored a try of his own. Mens Own got back on the score sheet with a try in the corner.

The second half developed into a scrum fest in which Harborough were well on top, Paul Wilson was pleading for more scrum action but 20 was enough for the mere scrimmaging mortals on the pitch.

With ten minutes remaining the much anticipated return to action for Phil Jarvis came to fruition. He did not disappoint by knocking has first contribution forward, dropping a high ball and pulling a calf muscle in the last play of the match. He had a fine 70 minutes as a touch judge no doubt long grassed pastures await!!

Thanks to all the guest players who put in a great shift during the game.

Next week sees the final game of the season at Oakham for their last ever game at the Showground (again), a beer festival and an afternoon of frivolity is in store. Please contact George and Billy with availability for the season finale, as only Paul Wilson in Barcelona is excused.
