The omens were not good because there were late call ups for 3 Colts. But with four minutes gone they found themselves behind after the home number eight trampled through the defence to touch down. Daventry kept up the pressure making their significant weight advantage count all over the pitch. The young guns stuck to their task and gradually took a foothold in the game taking the lead midway through the half with 2 penalties from the impressive Josh Haynes. On the half hour, one of the Colts, George Thornton charged down a kick, picked the ball up to cross in the corner but ran the ball in to touch down under the posts. On the stroke of half time, another Colt, Freddie Highton fell on a loose ball and scrambled over the line. Haynes converted both tries for a deserved interval lead of 5-20.
The second half saw a repeat start with Daventry going over for a converted try to make the score 12-20. But Harborough hit back immediately with a well worked try from a quickly taken penalty by Haynes. He fed Thornton who put Jonny Davies away to score in the corner. Haynes turned from provider to finisher as he stole the ball from a much heftier opponent on the half way line to touch down under the posts. With ten minutes to go Thornton crashed over from close range to extend the lead to 12-39. It was Thornton again who picked up the ball on his own 10 metre line to storm through the wilting Daventry defence to touch down for his hat trick. Harry Durham finished off the try fest with Haynes adding his fifth conversion for a final score 12-51. This was a very impressive performance with captain Aaron Lyle keeping his young team focussed on their task throughout, particularly because they played for the last 30 minutes with only 14 players after Chris Merlane had to go off injured.
