Two contrasting styles were on show on a wet and slippery afternoon, with the youthful running Harborough game coming out on top.
In was apparent early on that the larger Rushden forwards were going to try and starve the visitors of possession and in the early exchanges Harborough were up against it. An early burst of pace from Fergus Clarke settled the nerves and the visitors were off and running.
Good forward work and aggressive tackling by Rhys Charlesworth, Tom Lockwood and Shaun Morris slowly began to provide more ball for the Harborough backs. Jack Roginski and Will Taylor soon followed the lead set by more experienced players, with excellent work at the breakdown. Further tries from Morris, Barnett and the excellent Tim Waterfield gave the visitors a solid platform by half time.
After the break Ian Barnett posted another score, Fergus Clarke popped up again and Stef Ziemelis bagged a brace. Rushden were always putting pressure in the forwards and posted two deserved late tries However, with Fraser Hartrop kicking five conversions from Harborough's eight tries to round off an excellent performance.
Harborough's fitness and youthful exuberance was the key to victory on the day, some of the inexperienced young lads put in a great shift today and should be 'well pleased' with their efforts!!.
