Harborough seconds have been steadily improving over the last few weeks and the team were unlucky not to register a victory. The visitors started well with an impressive defence against a determined OL's pack. Alex Houghton and Mike Alcorn put insome great tackles.
The first twenty minutes were evenly balanced with Yogi Green, James Wayman and Dan Weston combatting the strong home team forays. After 30 minutes Old Laurentians finally broke Harborough resistance to lead 5-0. Harborough pack had the edge all afternoon and constantly drove the home side off the ball. The fact they only had one penalty try was due to mistakes and some lenient referee decisions.
Oli Marriot and Nick Airey were prominent for Harborough but couldn't stop the home team going into half time 13-5 in front.
In the second half the team stepped up the pressure with Jack Smith galvanising the pack. Aaron Lyle frustrated at the lack of attacking opportunities went into 'whirling dervish' mode. The opposition fell over like ten pin bowling skittles and his reward was two well taken tries. Harborough were now ahead 15-13 and should have pressed for teratorial advantage in the remaining few minutes.
Two late penalties for the home team deprived the visitors of a hard fought victory.
Coach Phil Jarvis commented, "This was a determined display and by far our best of the season. With fewer mistakes and more width we could have seen this game out. Although the lads thought they could have given more, they did their club proud today. Next week is a home game and I expect a good turnout"
