Classic Encounter with South

Basking in the spring sunshine Market Harborough started strongly and looked the most dangerous in the first quarter scoring a try through the strong running Joe Welch and a penalty from Michael Woodford.

South Leicester then fought back and capitalised on poor defence to run in 3 well worked trys in the second quarter against a penalty from Woodford. Half time score of 11-15 flattered the visitors but should have been a wake-up call.

The second half then opened up with some adventurous rugby from both sides with South Leicester having the better of the 3rd quarter and Market Harborough fighting back in the 4th after trailing 23 - 32. Charlie Foskett scored from a strong run close to the line, Callum Lepper scored a vital interception try, running in from the half way, and Woodford scored a try from close range after a period of sustained pressure on the SL line. Woodford then decided the game with an excellent penalty in the last 2 minutes.

The seconds showed great spirit and determination to win this vital league encounter. Welch and Woodford were the outstanding players with Woodford the Talisman scoring 1 try, 2 conversions and 3 penalties (18 points) - not bad for a number 8!
