The weather at Oval Park was changeable, going from sunshine to heavy rain at regular intervals. Unfortunately, The Black Cats followed in a similar vain. In a game that should have been closed out the determined Oadby Wyggestonians never gave up and with the last kick of the game levelled the scores to 38-38
Harborough got off to a fast start with driving mauls close to the oppositions line resulting in tries for Timmy Waterfield and Jack Burrows.
After 10 minutes the score was 12-0. A penalty for Wyggs opened the home sides account. That penalty having an impact on the final score.
After a flowing move involving Josh Purnell and Monty Maule Jack Rowlatt scored in the corner. Converted by Monty, Harborough were in Control at this stage with the score at 19-3
Before the game Wyggs legend Andy Beevers had stated that the home side will never give up. He was not wrong, back they came to score there first try, 19-10.
Just before the break Tom Herdman won a fantastic turnover, the ball was shipped right for Will Marriott to score in the corner. Again converted. The Referee blew for half time 26-10.
The second half started with Harborough on the attack. A missed opportunity to go wide allowed the home side to clear their lines.
Wyggs then put together a well worked passage of play through the forwards for Michael Wright to go over. The try was converted 26-17.
Back came Harborough with a well worked try wide on the left by Tom Claffey against his old club 31-17. Harborough attacked again and a bit like the parting of the waves Jack Digby powered over to take the score to 38-17.
Oadby Wyggs worked the ball down field and the large frame of Michael Wright crashed over for his second try and was converted 38-24.
Following another attack Harborough did not clear there lines and then gave away a penalty. Wyggs yet again drove for the line and scored. 38-31
As the game entered the final minute. Wyggs crossed the line for one final time. Jack Elliott held his nerve and the final kick was successful. 38-38
The visiting referee from Oxfordshire blew the final whistle.
Harborough will feel they should of managed the game better. Wyggs, as Mr Beevers stated, never gave up.
