Local derby with visitors from Northampton

35 players available for this fixture. Fantastic numbers following the best attended training session so far this season! Two mini squads selected to play each half. Squad one played into the wind first half against a big, physical BBOBs side. An early Yellow card for the opposition for a high tackle allowed Market Harborough front foot ball. The pack secured possession and got the ball wide early. This tactic paid off early in the first half with Finlay Carter getting the ball quickly to Albert A who ran half the length of the pitch to score Harborough’s first score of the day. 5-0.
Another fluent backs move found Matt C with the ball on the wing. He demonstrated his pace following a period of injury, and put the ball down to make the score 10-0.
Harborough tried running the ball from behind their own try line but BBOBs shut down the adventurous attempt, then demonstrated their own power up front by putting together several phases that culminated in a pick and go from 5m out. 10-5. Harborough continued to defend well with notable individual tackles made by Will Vear and Oli D in defence and strong carrying from Dylan S in attack.
Harborough were not rattled after conceding and went on the attack immediately after. Full Back Finn Colman made a jinking run from the right, eventually releasing Albert A who accelerated into space to finish in the left corner. Finn C converted to make the score 17-5.
BBOB’s again utilised their forward power, and immediately responded with a converted score of their own under the posts, ending the first half with the hosts leading 17-12.
Mass changes at half time saw a brand new squad take the field, a sign of strength in depth from a committed and talented bunch of lads.
Playing with the wind, Harborough wasted no time from the first scrum of the half. Number 8, Jack E with a pick up and blind side break from the scrum on the 22m line, crashing over for the first score of the second half, converted by Charlie B. 24-12.
Harborough regained possession from the kick off and made their way up field. The forwards effectively securing ball with flankers Amael C, Alex TS getting to the breakdowns quickly and the rest of their pack maintaining possession from line outs and rucks. Harborough eventually won a penalty after the opposition entered a ruck off their feet. A quick tap pen from Will C released the backs on a pre- planned dummy scissor move, finding outside centre Robert out wide and accelerating beyond the reach of the BBOB defenders. Conversion by Charlie B. 31-12.
The Harborough pack asserted their authority, setting the platform for a cross field kick into space by Charlie B, chased down and gathered by Finn C in the corner, supported by Sam P at the resulting breakdown and Robert W stepped the last defender, running the ball In under the posts. 38-12.
Harborough were on overdrive, with the back line purring, thanks to the forwards setting the foundation, another pre- planned backs move allowed Robert to complete his hat trick. 45-12.
Another solid squad performance with intent at the breakdown, a desire to recycle the ball and adventure in the back play.
