No Nerves Nijjer Makes Derby Dispair
Market Harborough U13s travelled to Derby and contrary to expectation, took the game by the reigns from the off. Harborough dominated across all areas of the pitch, delivering one of their best performances of the season with a comprehensive 73-0 victory. A turn-over scrum resulted in an early try by Ross Primrose, which was converted by Will Hallam. Harborough forwards were dominant and demonstrated good rucking before Henry Povoas scored a second. Debutant, Will Nijjer made some good runs to set up a Will Hallam try, and good tackling by Harry Grimett prevented the home side making any advantage. Ross Primrose scored his second try before Povoas stole the ball at a Derby lineout and scored another. Good runs by James Melody and Adam Stamp resulted in a try for Nijjer, which was converted by Will Hallam. The first-half ended with surging runs by Nijjer who was tackled short of the try line.
The second-half saw some Harborough substitutions; Jo Cleaver caught a high ball at the restart and charged at the opposition. Darting runs from Hallam and Mark Stribling resulted in another Povoas try which Hallam converted. A Povoas charge then resulted in a Hallam try. A storming run from Spencer Derry, who found touch when tackled from the side, paved the way for a successful line out for Nijjer who stole the ball and the glory with a second try. A midfield scrum was followed by good runs from Primrose and Tom Mercer before Povoas stole the ball from a Derby lineout to score again. Good ball handling between Cleaver, Melody and Mercer resulted in a try for Harry Ingram, which Hallam converted. Derby won their own lineout and kicked the ball over the players only to be kept in play by an acrobatic catch from Stribling who recycled the ball for a Matty Stamp try. A final long charge by Povoas resulted in a final try in the last minutes of the match.
