U14's only miss out by 10 to Olney

A bright but breezy Buckinghamshire morning greeteed the boys in black who whilst the parents debated what County they were actually in went through their warm-ups to face the tough opponents who had thoroughly beaten them last season. A couple of their players would not have been out of place in adult rugby.
Despite this, in the first 20 minutes Harborough matched them and although 0:0 it was an entertaining contest between two evenly matched teams.
The deadlock would be broken however and finding space out right, 2 extra attackers as Harborough were sucked in provided a double overlap to score in the corner as Harborough ran out of tacklers. In the breeze, it would be a game where kicks didn't count and this was the case here ... 5:0
Harborough pressed for an equaliser, Olney infringed at the breakdown, the referee spotted it and penalty to Harborough. Clearly an unpopular decision with an Olney player, 10 further metres for Harborough and Harborough chose a scrum. Winning the shove, Ollie Bunce picked up and stepped defenders to score in the corner, 5:5
Half time soon followed.
In the second half, Harborough were attacking in the middle of the pitch but Bunce spotted an opportunity and kicked over the defenders, being first to read the bounce and collect his own kick to score a fine individual try: 5:10
Harborough pressed again and in a similar move Bunce again employed a clever kick. He was tackled off the ball with no-one to beat but was perhaps just too far out for a penalty try to be the only option ... and the referee decided on a yellow card and penalty.
From the penalty, Harborough conspired to lose possession as they tried to slowly spread it wide. Olney pushed upfield and despite being a man down they levelled the match 10:10
They added a further 5 from a lovely try in the corner and then Harborough gifted them another 5, attempting to pass the ball across the backline within their own deadball area. When the ball went to ground, Olney pounced first for a soft further final five points to secure a 20:10 win.
Despite losing, this was a good and tough game of rugby between two good teams, Harborough far more competitive than in last season's match and they have it in their locker to beat Olney on another day.
