Under 16s victory in Round 1 of County Cup

Market Bosworth visited the Under 16 girls for a fantastic first round of the County Cup

Marketing Harborough U16 girls delivered a sparkling display of running rugby on Sunday, sweeping aside a spirited Market Bosworth team with a thrilling 82–24 victory. From the opening whistle, Harborough set the tone with fast-paced attacking play, excellent handling, and clinical finishing that kept the Coaches, Parents and Supporters cheering all afternoon.

First Half: Fast Start and Free-Flowing Rugby

Harborough kicked off with intent, and early breaks soon had Bosworth on the back foot. Although an early penalty went Bosworth’s way, Harborough quickly regained momentum, and a solid scrum platform paved the way for Kayleigh, who burst through the defensive line to score a fantastic opening try. Belle slotted the conversion with ease.

Moments later, Aaliyah capitalised on a Bosworth handling error from the restart, slicing through the middle before rounding the defence to score another fine try, again converted by Belle.

Barely had the crowd caught their breath when another lightning break from Aaliyah set up Taya, who showed great pace and footwork to round the wing and cut inside for Harborough’s third try — Belle once again added the extras.

Harborough’s early dominance was clear, though Bosworth responded with some determined play, enjoying a spell of possession and territory during the second part of the first half. Their hard work paid off with a well-earned try down the left-hand side, though their fly-half was unable to add the conversion.

Harborough hit back almost immediately however with a sweeping move from right to left — Ellie made a strong break before Meg finished superbly in the corner. Bosworth then clawed back another try through their No.8, who powered over from the base of the scrum, and their fly-half converted.

A flurry of offside penalties gave Bosworth further chances, and they capitalised with a determined finish in the corner. But Harborough answered in style, a crisp passing sequence involving Taya, Belle, and Kayleigh saw the latter smash over for a superb team try, Belle converting once more.

Bosworth refused to roll over and added another converted try before half-time, but Harborough closed the half with a flourish. A strong forwards platform allowed the backs to sweep wide, and Lucy finished the move with a well-taken try. At the break, Harborough led 36–24.

Second Half: Total Control from Harborough

Harborough came out firing in the second half, and it wasn’t long before Taya found space again, wrong-footing the Bosworth fullback to score under the posts, with Belle adding the conversion.

Moments later, Aaliyah tore through the middle, almost adding another, but Bosworth’s clearance only delayed the inevitable — Taya gathered the loose ball, jinked through several defenders, and dotted down for another fabulous try.

The Harborough backs were now in full flow. A turnover deep in their own half saw Grace make a powerful break before recycling possession for Taya to step past the fullback once again and score under the posts — Belle kept her perfect record going from the tee.

With confidence sky-high, Harborough continued to move the ball beautifully across the pitch. Lucy powered through a tackle to score a determined try, followed by a dazzling end-to-end sequence starting with a strong carry from Belle on the left and ending with Martha finishing on the right.

From the restart, Aaliyah stormed through the middle once more, breaking the line and racing away to score beneath the posts. Belle converted with ease.

As the clock wound down, Harborough’s fitness and flair shone through. Another team effort combining forwards’ graft and slick handling from the backs saw Taya cap off a sensational performance with yet another try under the posts.

When the final whistle blew, Harborough had racked up an emphatic 82–24 victory — a testament to their teamwork, creativity, and relentless attacking rugby.
